Wigtown misses out on resilience money

Elected members attending the monthly meeting of Wigtown and District Community Council were keen to know why council money for resilience teams in the region has bypassed Wigtown yet benefitted other communities.

Community resilience teams in Newton Stewart, Whithorn and the Isle of Whithorn had received thousands of pounds of council money to help ensure there was a safety net for residents to rely on if extreme weather struck.

A spokesperson for Dumfries and Galloway Council said: ”No application for funding was received from Wigtown Community Council during the last round when Newton Stewart, Whithorn and the Isle of Whithorn received funding. However we can confirm that the Wigtown Community Resilience Team will be submitting an application to the next round of funding for the Dumfries and Galloway Council Community Safety Fund (end of March) along with other funders for additional community resilience equipment.”
