The second annual RNLI Portpatrick Crew and Helpers Family day was held at the Portpatrick Lifeboat Station on Saturday 17 October after the success of last year’s event.

This event was started to enable the crew and many helpers behind the scenes to bring their families along to an informal event to meet others involved in the running of the RNLB John Buchanan Barr.

Those attending the event were able to see the lifeboat station and take a tour of the state of the art lifeboat, whilst volunteer crew members were on hand to answer any questions. A barbeque was held by crew members to provide food and drink to the visitors.

Joint organisers, mechanic Ally Cerexhe and coxswain Robert McQueen, said that the people who ran Portpatrick lifeboat station were like a large family, and that this event was important to show appreciation to the crew, the helpers and their families, and to allow them to socialise and meet old friends and make new ones. They also stated that they would like to publicly thank the McLintock bakery in Stranraer for sponsoring the event by generously supplying bread rolls and bakery products free of charge.
