Three charities have benefitted from fundraising by the ladies of the Newton Stewart and District Inner Wheel.

At their recent summer get-together at the Creebridge House Hotel, Newton Stewart, cheques totalling £650 were handed over to Newton Stewart Autism Support Group, Dumfries and Galloway Befriending Project and international charity Mission Aviation Fellowship. The money was raised at the group’s annual spring coffee morning at Wigtown County Buildings.

Sarah Holmes from the Autism Support Group expressed her thanks for the donation of £300 which she says will be used to buy equipment and help fund a day out for the group which supports anyone caring for someone on the autistic spectrum. The support group meets the second Monday of every month at the Newton Stewart Activity and Resource Centre in King Street.

Meanwhile, the £300 donation to the Befriending Project will help to support the work of the charity in Wigtownshire. The Befriending Project recruits, trains and supports adult volunteer befrienders who are matched one-to-one with vulnerable or disadvantaged young people across Dumfries and Galloway.
