A most successful Gatehouse Gala took place last week in the town with every event well attended no matter the weather.
Organiser David McNicol said: “We had a good opening day with the crowning of the queen and the sashing of the Fleet Lad and Lass for 2016. A concert by Jesse Garron followed which was a big hit with the crowds as well as helping to raise money for the Macmillan cancer charity. The car treasure hunt, picnic in the park, the tennis and the golf were all well attended and the fun run, organised by the Galloway Harriers, saw good number turning out despite the weather. Then on the Wednesday it had dried up by 6 o’ clock at night in time for a fantastic torchlight parade and fireworks display.
“Saturday was the big day with the parade and there were 12 floats this year all of a very high standard. The crowds stayed on to listen to Bruce McKenzie’s band, the Kirkcudbright Pipe Band and there was also a model train going round the park.
“The week finished off on the Sunday with the Riding of the Marches. Twenty horses went out in the afternoon on the four hour ride and around 60 to 70 horses went round the town and out to Cally Palace at night.”
