Castle Douglas scouts heading back to Kenya

Castle Douglas Scouts are going back to Kenya later this year. Following a similar successful trip in 2015, pictured above, 10 scouts from the troop will team up with Kenyan students from Ekalakala Youth Polytechnic in October to build Ventilated Improved Pit (VIP) latrines in rural schools in the north of Machakos County. They will also help a community to construct a sand dam to counter the impact of sand harvesting on water conservation.

The scouts are hoping that local people and businesses will support the trip by getting behind the “We’re Backing CD Scouts” fundraising campaign being launched next week.

“There will be a series of events coming up over the next few months,” said Scout leader Paul Hodson, “so we are hoping people will support us. We were in Kenya last week to visit the schools and Youth Polytechnic and think the scouts will have an amazing time. If they work hard we will even let them relax for a couple of days with a little walk up Mt Kenya!” If you want to support the scouts or know more about the projects, please contact Paul Hodson on 07711 663603 or you can make a donation at
