Burns World chief to visit Gatehouse

The “Robert Burns” season is usually through January and early February but for Dr Peter Hughes President of the Robert Burns World Federation it goes on through spring and summer with visits to USA and Australia.

Since being elected President he has already been to Calgary and Medicine Hat in Canada.

Nearer home President Peter is proposing the Immortal Memory at Gatehouse of Fleet Burns Club in the Murray Arms where their Annual Burns Supper takes place on Friday 5th February.

The President’s interest in Burns began when he was a pupil at Wishaw High School and his other interest- football- at the same school led him to playing in the Scotland schools national team.

Dr Hughes has had a long and distinguished career in commerce and Industry and his appointment as Chief Executive of Scottish Engineering brought him recognition from distinguished establishments.

He is also a motivational speaker for school pupils and delivers fascinating talks on careers in Engineering.

This activity takes him all over the U.K and from time to time he gets information from former pupils about being inspired to take up Engineering.

The audience on Friday evening can look forward to a well presented Immortal Memory.
