Last Sunday afternoon saw Wigtown County Buildings alive with the sound of music, but not the Julie Andrews variety!
Wigtownshire U3A had organised a concert as part of their Relay for Life team’s fund-raising efforts. Catstrand Ukes had the Main Hall rocking as they played music mostly from the 50s and 60s including a selection of rock, pop and country.
More and more chairs had to be brought into the hall as folk were drawn in to listen. Catstrand Ukes are developing quite a following locally and rightly so. There is a lot of talent in the group and they certainly had an appreciative audience on Sunday.
In addition to the concert there were refreshments, tables selling plants, books, DVDs & CDs plus a Tombola. Another big attraction was an opportunity to win a ukulele, generously donated by one of the Catstrand Ukes.
A grand total of £1,041.36 was raised that afternoon. Now the team look forward to the Relay for Life which gets underway at 11am at Bladnoch Park on Saturday, July 1 when they will be hoping the weather brings as much sunshine and happiness as the music did on Sunday.
