After a incredibly hard fought final with magnificent shots from both teams, the Mochrum Cup, sponsored by Alex McCleary, Funeral Directors, Newton Stewart, Wigtown Curling Club retained the trophy by five shots to four.
The Wigtown team of Jim Cannon, Christine Cannon (substituting for Jenni Cannon), Jak Kane and Debbie Johnstone were victorious over the Kirkmabreck CC rink of Kerr Fisher, Iain McFadzean, Eric Johnstone and Kevin Francis, scoring the one shot they needed in the last end.
At the presentations afterwards, Galloway Province President Drew Paton congratulated all the curlers for the high standard of play in the final and asked Marion Fergusson to present the trophy on behalf of the sponsors. The winners also received handmade wooden ‘purple heart’ curling stones while the runners-up were presented with curling-themed china mugs.
Both Jim Cannon and Kerr Fisher them spoke, thanking their teams and the opposition for the excellent game and to the province secretary for organising the competition.
