League champions Dalbeattie Star once again locked horns with Wigtown and Bladnoch at Trammondford Park and, this time around, the match ended all square at 1-1.

Grant Carnochan put the home side ahead after 15 minutes with a headed goal, but Scott Milligan levelled the match 10 minutes later from the penalty spot. #

There were no further goals and the teams shared the points with the point ensuring Wigtown take third place a point ahead of Threave Rovers, who beat Newton Stewart by a single goal at Blairmount.

In an evenly matched contest with goal-scoring chances at both ends, Threave managed to break their recent run of poor results when Darren Kerr scored in the 16th minute from a free kick on the edge of the penalty box.

Neither team could break down the respective defences and the game was won by the solitary goal to break the Castle Douglas side’s sequence of recent defeats.

There was a shock result at St Mary’s Park where Crichton beat St Cuthbert Wanderers 4-3.

Ryan McKie opened the scoring in the 24th minute for Saints, with Mark Leighfield squaring the match six minutes later to send the teams in at the break on level terms.

Striker Craig Rudd gave the home side the lead in the 63rd minute but it only took a minute for the visitors to level the match again when Brodie Turner netted.

Mark Leighfield them went on to score another for Crichton in the 67th minute and completed his hat-trick five minutes later.

Justin Nichol pulled a goal back for Saints 10 minutes from the end of the match but couldn’t find another to take a share of the points and Crichton finished their season on a high by taking three points from the second top placed side.

There is only one game left in the South of Scotland League this season and that will be played at Blairmount Park next Monday when Newton Stewart host Dalbeattie Star in what will be the last match to be played on grass at Blairmount before the installation of the 3G pitch for next season.
