Wigtown open up six point lead

The South of Scotland League competition continued on Saturday but only at two venues as the adverse weather conditions put paid to all the matches scheduled to be played on grass.

Dumfries YMCA had their work cut out to take anything from the high flying Wigtown and Bladnoch and in fact failed to find the net and losing six goals in the process as the visitors recorded their sixth straight victory of the season.

Mark Hoad put the Trammondford side ahead after 11 minutes play with an own goal doubling the scoreline ten minutes later. Just on the break Callum Scott found goal number three to send the teams in at the interval with Wigtown holding a comfortable three goal lead. A Blair Dougan double and a single from Jordan Rose in the second half saw the league leaders run out easy winners to open up a six point lead at the top of the table.

At Lockerbie Mid-Annandale took on the present Champions St Cuthbert Wanderers and recorded an excellent victory by the odd goal in five. Saints opened the scoring in the tenth minute when Colin Carnochan found the net with a header from a corner and with thirty two minutes played Mids were awarded a penalty.

Keeper Ross Wilson though was equal to Connor Murrays effort with a good save and four minutes later Saints went further ahead through Scott Milligan. However the home side stuck to their task and were rewarded a minute from the break with an Andy White goal. Seven minutes after the re-start Levi Carrick squared the match and in the fifty fifth minute the visitors were reduced to ten men when Farrel O’Sullivan was dismissed for a second yellow card.

With fifteen minutes left to play Murray made amends for his earlierpenalty miss when he scored the winner for Mids although before the end of the match they had young keeper Colin Dorrance to thank after pulling off a tremendous netbound save to ensure that they took the whole three points. South football only have Threave Rovers left in this seasons William Hill Scottish Cup after Edusport went out by a single goal in their First Preliminary Round replay against Colville Park FC.
