Whithorn Braveheart’s boxer Tyler Jolly travelled over to Dublin last Thursday to compete as part of the Scottish team in the Monkstown Box Cup tournament coming home with a silver medal.
Tyler won his semi-final against an Irish opponent on Saturday with a round one knock-out to secure his spot in the final.
Coach Bobby Cloy said: “Tyler has been training hard for this tournament and his speed and strength was to much for his Irish opponent, Tyler caught the Irish lad with a flurry of body shots then a over hand right to the head that dropped him to the canvas.”
The final was against an English opponent which proved to be a close encounter with both boxers going toe-to-toe from the first bell to the last.
Coach Robin Templeton commented afterwards: “What a bout. It was very hard to judge as both boxers were showing great skills and ability. The English boxer had the reach advantage but Tyler showed more aggression and power shots but the referee raised the hand of the English boxer as the eventual winner.”
Overall, Scotland won four golds and four silvers.
