The South West of Scotland Horse Driving Club held a very successful driving weekend at Racks Farm, Collin by kind permission of Millar and Margaret Paterson.
The event was sponsored by Millar and Margaret Paterson, New Look Windows, Mark and Katie and Zan Kirk. The competition attracted a good entry of competitors travelling from Cumbria as well as top local competitors.
High winds on the Saturday forced the committee to postpone the dressage and cones until Sunday and a rescheduled timetable saw the first competitor go into dressage at 8.30am. The dressage was kindly judged by Catriona Murray and Debbie Finlay. The marathon started at 1.30pm and took the competitors over the neighbouring farm before returning back to the field to complete the five individually timed obstacles.
In a closely contested Open class, Pat Gillan from Wigtown driving Tommy drove a very good dressage and cones to lead Zan Kirk by 3.7points going into the marathon. Pat drove a good marathon and although Zan posted some quick times in the obstacles she couldn’t quite catch Pat and had to settle for second place only 1.4 points behind. Jen Bernard finished third and Carl Bevan fourth.
In the Novice class Judith Hunt led from start to finish. She had the best dressage of the day and was one of only two competitors to have a double clear round in the cones. Alison Mullany was second and Miranda Saunders third.
In a strong Multiples Class Iain McKendrick took first place ahead of Julie Lister in second.
The beginners class was won by Linda Lyle and the Field Class by Kirstin McBride.
After a vote of thanks, Margaret Paterson presented the following prizes:
