Success for Jock and Kirsty

JOCK Armstrong from Castle Douglas claimed overall victory in the Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally which took place last Sunday.

Along with co-driver Kirsty Riddick, this success meant a third consecutive win in the event, and their fourth in five years, making them the most successful crew in the 35-year history of the rally.

Second overall were David Wilson/Dave Robson in a Mit-subishi, the youngster being rewarded for braving the conditions in travelling down from Alness for the event, as he finished 1 minute and 27 seconds behind Armstrong.

A stirring drive by Richard Dickson (New Abbey) and Sanny Dobie (Castle Douglas) saw them claim third place ahead of Ian Paterson/Helen Brown from Dumfries; the Inverness duo of Allan Smith/Ian MacIvor, making their four-wheel drive debut in a Mitsubishi Evo 8, rounded off the top five.

The top two-wheel drive award went to Graeme Schoneville and Stuart Loudon from East Kilbride, who brought their Honda Civic home in a fantastic 11th overall.

Other class awards went to Richard Dickson (3rd overall); Mark McCulloch from Newton Stewart (12th overall); Duncan Ferguson from Dalmellington (19th overall); Andrew Wheatley from Cockermouth (24th overall); and television Formula 1 pundit and commentator Tony Jardine, who won Class 2 in his Fiesta (17th overall).
