Stoneykirk Curling Club retained the Wigtownshire Rink Championship, sponsoroed by John D Owen, Family Butchers, Newton Stewart and Frasers the Butchers, Stranraer, at Stranraer Ice Rink last Friday night.
The team of Ian Kirkpatrick, Norman Brown, Danny Hair and Willie Hurcomb got the better of the Leswalt team of Margaret Agnew, John Agnew, Richard Stevenson and Katie Wright by three shots to two in a very enjoyble final for the spectators. This was the second time in three years that these two rinks have faced each other in the final and the high standard of shotmaking explained why.
At the presentation of prizes, Galloway Province vice-president Drew Paton praised the teams for the high standard of play before asking Rhins O’ Gallowa’ Province secretary Jeanette Sloan to present the trophy to the winners and prizes of red wine glasses. She also presented the John Agnew Salver and prizes of casserole dishes to the runners-up.
Norman Brown, the Rhins President, gave a vote of thanks to the two province secretaries and the two sponsors for their support of this historic competition.
