The Secondary Schools Badminton Championships took place with over 100 pupils from secondary schools across the region taking part in a competitive fun filled day of Badminton.
Organised by the region’s Badminton Schools Association with support Dumfries and Galloway Council, the day ran smoothly and was enjoyed by competitors and spectators alike.
It was a great turnout for the event which was held at Lockerbie Academy with pupils competing for selection to represent the region at the Scottish Schools National Championships later in the year. There were also pupils who experienced their first competition in badminton, but that didn’t show as all played with great effort and enthusiasm.
Badminton Schools Association chair Kenny Marscheider said: “I would like to thank Lockerbie Academy for hosting the competition, it is hoped that other Schools will have the opportunity in the future. I would also like to thank all the teachers/coordinators who helped organise and run the event and the parents for providing the transport to make the event a huge success. Hope to see you all next year/”
Chair of Community and Customer Services, Councillor Tom McAughtrie said: “It is great to hear of so many pupils playing badminton, and indeed the increasing number of physical activity and sporting opportunities created for the children of our region.”
