The first preliminary round of the William Hill Scottish Cup takes place on Saturday involving four South of Scotland League Clubs with all four receiving home ties.
Edusport Academy meet Glasgow Amateur side Coliville FC while St Cuthbert Wanderers play hosts to Edinburgh side Leith Athletic who play in the East of Scotland League with both South sides having a great chance of progressing to the next round.
Newton Stewart and Wigtown and Bladnoch though both will have their work cut out to make any impact when they play against two top Ayrshire Junior Clubs, Beith and Auchinleck Talbot respectively. Beith are in the Scottish Cup having won the Scottish Junior Cup while Auchinleck Talbot were West SuperLeague winners and both will be formidable opposition for the two Wigtownshire sides. It should be noted that the match at Blairmount Park kicks-off at 2pm with the others starting at 3pm. Threave Rovers received a bye to the Preliminary Round proper where the winners of the ties involving the two Wigtownshire teams will meet each other.
There is also a full domestic programme scheduled to be played with a first round tie of the SCFA Alternate Cup between Upper Annandale and Lochar Thistle taking place at Moffat. This Competition is a new one which is for Clubs who are not full SFA Members and do not take part in the Scottish Cup. There are also four South of Scotland matches being played with Abbey Vale meeting Nithsdale Wanderers at New Abbey for a match that looks fairly even while Dumfries YMCA will meet Lochmaben as they attempt to take their first points of the season. Mid-Annandale play hosts to Creetown for a contest that looks like it could go close with home advantage maybe being the deciding factor. Threave Rovers have Heston Rovers as their visitors to Meadow Park for another fixture that could go either way as teams settle into the new season.
Wednesday evening again sees a full South of Scotland League programme taking place all with 7.30pm kick-offs except the match at Sanquhar between Nithsdale Wanderers and Upper Annandale that starts at 6.45pm. Dumfries YMCA play Abbey Vale as both go in search of points while Heston Rivers entertain Lochmaben at Palmerston Park. High fliers Mid-Annandale meet Lochar Thistle while at Bl;airmount Park there is a local derby when Newton Stewart play local rivals Wigtown and Bladnoch. St Cuthbert Wanderers welcome Edusport Academy to St Marys Park for what could very well be a close and exciting match.
