The Speyside Stages in Elgin on Saturday was the latest round of the Scottish Rally Championship. Port William based driver Fraser Wilson was competing in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 with co-driver Craig Wallace and were looking to notch up their third class win of the season.
The rally started with two short repeated stages around Cooper Park in Elgin itself. Not the natural habitat for Wilson’s Class 10 Evo, they completed those stages in 19th position overall and held the joint Class 10 lead.
It was then off to more familiar surroundings in the forests for the proper rally stages where they looked to climb the leader board. By first service they had climbed to 13th place, but the service crew had to replace a leaking brake caliper before continuing the rally.
The top 10 was full of crews in classes above Wilson’s Evo, but over the next few stages Fraser and Craig began to catch them, eventually going on to finish 10th overall and Class 10 winners. A hugely successful event for the whole team and thanks needs to go to everyone who’s helped.
Following the disappointing cancellation of the Merrick Stages in Wigtown this year, the McRae Stages in October is the final round of the 2015 Scottish Rally Championship.
