Polly joins all-girl mountain bike team

Polly Henderson (14) from Castle Douglas has been selected for a new all-female mountain biking team that features riders from across the UK.

Female Riders Race Team is a girls’ cross-country (XC), downhill (DH) and enduro mountain biking (MTB) team launched in 2016 to promote, support and assist a talented group of up-and-coming female riders to race competitively in the UK and worldwide.

The team aim to enhance the buzz around the growing female mountainbike racing scene and look to bridge the gap between the top elite riders and the rest of the pack.

The long-term aim is to grow the youth-side of the team to create a development platform to grow skills and enthusiasm for racing.

The team comprises Roz Newman (Team Captain), Bex Baraona (21), Elena Melton (18), Ellen Flewitt (14) and Polly Henderson (14).

Polly had good number of wins last season in the Scottish Power Mini DH Series, Scottish XC and Nutcracker Enduro Series.

This season Polly will be at all of the British National XC Series & the British XC Championships, most of the SXC Series & the Nutcracker Series, a few PMBA enduro races & the Muckmedden Series, some mini dh inc. the Scottish Power Series finishing with the final at the World Cup weekend in Fort William.

In September Polly hopes to be picked for Scotland to race in the British Inter Regional XC Championships. Plus a couple of road races like the Youth Tour of Scotland. Then back to cyclocross over winter & the local SW Scotland race series.
