Newton Stewart have hit the jackpot this week by signing ex-Annan Athletic midfielder Jack Steele.
The 23-year-old left the Scottish third division club at his own request and since then has interested several South of Scotland clubs as well as Ayr United and Clyde.
Steele has made 13 appearances for the Galabank side this season and 83 overall during his time there after joining from Dalbeattie Star following a successful time as a youth player with Queen of the South.
The midfielder’s last appearance for Annan was against Rangers in the New Year fixture and he also played against the Glasgow giants in December at Ibrox.
His signing for Newton Stewart shows how the Creesiders are moving forward and manager Davy Hyslop said: “Jack was training with us a few times and fitted in very well with our boys. When he became available I spoke to him although I knew that he would have lots of offers but he has been very easy to deal with.
“It is great credit to him that he has given Newton Stewart the credit we deserve. We are hoping that he can stay as long as possible but just by signing for the club he has given everyone here a boost because he is a tremendous player who can take us on to another level.”
Secretary John McNaught added: “This signing shows that we are a forward-thinking club and have been building gradually over the years, particularly since Davy took over as player-manager. And with our last signing, Liam Muir from Saints, now up front, we will be looking for things happening.
“These latest signings show the potential of the club and has given us all a great lift and hopefully set us up to win at least one cup this season. Davy Hyslop has done and is still doing a great job and we welcome Jack to our club and know that he will enjoy playing for us.”
