Last Sunday at Dumfries Ice Bowl, the Portpatrick father and daughter combination of Neil and Alison Fyfe was beaten by one shot in the final of the Irish Curling Association Mixed Championships.
Neil. 52, and Alison, 19, were playing with David Whyte and Ailsa Anderson in a three way competition. Having won both their round-robin games they progressed straight to Sunday afternoon’s final where they met the team of Johnjo Kenny, Marie O’Kane, Tony Tierney and Jen Ward who had beaten the third team entered, Bill Gray, Margarita Sweeney-Baird, Ross Barr and Jacqui Barr in the semi-final.
The final was a very close encounter that went right down to the last stone. Kenny’s team were lying shot when David Whyte attempted runback with the last stone of the game just missed its target leaving Team Kenny the Irish Mixed Champions for 2015 and the prize of a trip to Berne for the world championships in the autumn to look forward to.
