With a win and other results going their way Stranraer could have been crowned league champions at Stair Park on Saturday but it was not to be for The Blues.

In the end up a 2-0 defeat to Greenock Morton, who moved top of Scottish League One, pushed Stranraer down to third place by winning at Stair Park.

Morton had taken the lead from a Declan McManus penalty after Steven Bell had brought down Peter MacDonald.

And it was that man McManus who broke Blues hearts after scoring his second from a Ross Forbes cross just four minutes later.

Both sides ended the match with 10 men with Morton’s Ricki Lamie dismissed for serious foul play and Stranraer’s Chris Aitken sent off for violent conduct as tempers frayed on both sides.

Going into this weekend’s final round of matches Morton are now level on points with Forfar Athletic but have a superior goal difference.

Morton visit Peterhead, Forfar host Ayr United and Stranraer, who now trail by two points, are at Brechin City.
