Mixed fortunes for rugby clubs

The rugby season’s league programme began with mixed fortunes for the local sides on Saturday.

In RBS West Division One, Newton Stewart posted an excellent victory away to Allan Glen’s, running out 27-12 winners.

One division below, however, Stewartry slumped to a heavy defeat away to Carrick, going down 56-13.

Wigtownshire’s game on Saturday was called off as their opponents, Renfrew, could not field a team. The ’Shire therefore progress to the next round and will play Bishopton RFC on October 5 at London Road.

This Saturday, September 7, all three clubs are in action again, with Wigtownshire once more at home for what will be their first league game of the season against Paisley.

Newton Stewart are at Bladnoch Park, where the visitors are the men from Glasgow Accies for what should be a cracking encounter.

Stewartry entertain Cambuslang at Castle Douglas and will be hoping to make amends for last week’s thumping.

All kick-offs are at 3pm.
