Young Swimmers from Dumfries Amateur Swim Club (DASC) recently made the 157-mile trip to Leeds for the weekend to compete in a long course Graded Meet.
This meant all races were swam in a 50m pool and Dumfries were indeed the only Scottish Club present. It was a team event and the penultimate end of season competition.
What a way to end the season of racing, a sensational 17 medals - three Bronze, eight silver and six gold.
Stephen Dale-Sunley from Kirkcudbright brought home three of these golds all achieved in Breast Stroke.
Lauren Anderson from Stranraer and Cameron Gordon from Dumfries also had to find space in their bags for four medals each!
All swimmers however should be congratulated for their effort and performance.
there were lots of personal bests which is an excellent achievement considering this was the first time some swimmers have raced in a 50m pool.
Assistant Head Coach Anthony Ryan said: “The swimmers worked really well as a team spurring each other on and I must commend their enthusiasm and determination to race against swimmers from further afield.”
Team spirit was evident as swimmers stood poolside cheering each other on at the end of the lane.
The competitive edge also crept in in between races to establish whose mum made the best banana loaf ... I wonder who won?
Thanks must go to The Team Managers - Hazel Hastings and Leon Anderson who gave up their weekend to accompany the team. Thanks ladies.
Hazel also commented that the swimmers were a real credit to the club.
A further shout out to our young coach and of course our bus driver Stuart Myatt. Many thanks.
As the season draws to a close swimmers continue to work hard and look forward to gearing up for the next chapter of racing in August.
