Curlers representing the Machars Young Farmers Club won the Wigtownshire YF Trophy by beating their arch-rivals from the Rhins Young Farmers Club for the first time in 22 years last week at Stranraer Ice Rink.
The competition was played over three separate nights with two rinks from each young farmers club up against each other.
The first round saw both side win a game, in the second tie the Machars won one game and peeled the one and the last evening’s play saw the points split down the middle again giving the Machars’ teams the trophy by seven points to five.
Afterwards, Machars YF spokesman Robert Templeton said: “It was good to finally get a victory over the Rhins teams. In fact it came down to a measure between two stones in the end so there was not much in it. Both teams have very good curlers so it was always going to be close.”
