This record-breaking Starry Smoothound was caught aboard local charter boat Lucky Dip II during a fishing trip with skipper, Steve Stringer.
Weighing in at 20lb 4oz this belting fish was almost three times the Scottish Boat Record which presently stands at 7lb 1oz.
Argyll angler Nikki Thompson was fishing with her club mates from Loch Fyne Sea Angling Club when she landed her personal best smoothound in 80ft of water out of Portpatrick. It was also a boat record for The Lucky Dip II.
Her prize catch won’t go into the record books however, as to claim the record, the fish would have to be killed. Nikki returned the fish to fight another day.
