LOCH Ryan Sailing Club has recently gained the Dumfries and Galloway Sports Club Accreditation Award which is supported by Sport Scotland.
Loch Ryan Sailing Club has achieved all operating requirements in Child Protection and other key areas, including a vision for the future where sailing is promoted and opportunities developed. Morag Rowley accepted the certificate from Colin Freeman, Service Manager Community Services Wigtown on behalf of the Club.
The club dates back to the 1840s. The first published record of a sailing regatta in Loch Ryan, hosted by Lochryan Yachting Club, was in August 1843 under the patronage of HRH Prince Albert and attended by most of the local nobility including the Earl of Stair and the Earl of Orkney.
The club currently has around eighty members and meets Wednesday nights and Sundays from April to September.
There is training and racing throughout the season including regattas for local and visiting boats. Some members own yachts and there are regular events throughout the summer for the bigger boat races to the milleur buoy at the mouth of the loch and around the cans.
The sailing club welcomes new members.
