Last Saturday saw The Baccy Murray Trophy in its new home of Whithorn’s New Town Hall and with prize money of over £400 on offer it proved to be a great success, with the £1300 proceeds raised from the day going to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Players travelled from Stranraer and Gatehouse of Fleet as well as locals from Whithorn and surrounding areas.
Quarter-finals - Len Dey 1 Jamie Cloy 3; Justin Nichol 3 Rab Gilston 0; Paul O’Malley 1 Jim McCulloch 3; Davie Gracie 3 Doit Kiltie 3.
Semis - Jamie Cloy 2 Justin Nichol 4; Jim McCulloch 4 Doit Kiltie 0.
Final - Justin Nichol 5 Jim McCulloch 2.
The final started with Jim missing doubles and letting Justin go one up, in the second leg Jim hit his double to draw level this spurred Justin on and he took the third and fourth legs.
Jim then hit back by taking the fifth leg only for the man of the moment to take the last leg and become the ‘Baccy’ champion for 2015 - how fitting it was for Justin to win this along with his six other trophies this season. The trophy for the furthest lady was won by Izzy Lochhead.
The Lochhead family would like to thank all who attended and all the companies that gave prizes. A big thank you goes to Stephen “Hova“ Patterson and MC Len Wilson. The sponsors of the boards were JML Security, Machars Lions Club, Whithorn Veterinary Centre, James Hawthorn Joiners and Funeral Directors, the Steam Packet Hotel and Burrowhead Holiday Village, Kenny McCreadie Electrical Services and Billy Biagi for the use of his PA.
