The Wigtownshire Golf Association held the annual Ted & Jo Boyd Handicap singles competition last Sunday and the host club this year was Newton Stewart Golf Club.
The competition is for golfers that play off a handicap of 13 or over and are members of a golf club in Wigtownshire. There was an entry of 31 which was mainly made up of players from the home club with very few players travelling from the West of the county. The conditions where good after a dry week and the course was in great condition after the final of the Dalrymple Cup the day before. Straight shots benefitted from short fairways and few extra yards of run if your ball caught the rough you were not so lucky as several players found out. The firm greens needed to be approached with care with good shots being rewarded.
The overall scoring showed that the course was a test of golf but low scores where possible. The three players that got 2’s where John Brodie (NS), Andy Burnett (NS) and Jamie McClymont (NS).
The top three in each of the two categories are as follows;
Category 1 - 1, Jamie McClymont (NS) 67; 2, Andy Burnett (NS) 70; 3, Andy Strain (NS) 72 (BIH)
Category 2 – 1, Justin Moore (NS) 69; 2, Micky Bartlett (W&B) 70; 3, Alan Taylor (NS) 71
Overall winner of Ted & Jo Boyd Trophy – Jamie McClymont
