Harriers in wet, windy marathon

A few hardy Galloway Harriers took part in a wet, windy and challenging Girvan Half Marathon on 10th July.

Ian Hannah, from Stranraer, who is also an excellent triathlete, ran in 1.30, and new member John Goodenough in 1.36.

Newton Stewart’s David Beattie, also a triathlete ran in 1.48 and Martina Moore, another very keen triathlete ran in 1.52.

The bad conditions on the day could have slowed the runners down a lot so excellent times for all. John Goodenough had also taken part in a five-mile race in Didcott, Oxfordshire a few days before Girvan Half Marathon. He ran a personal best of 33.31 on a warm day in this flat race coming 38th out of 195 runners. The Harriers move from running in races to organising the annual Roon the Watter Race which takes place as part of Gatehouse Gala. This year the race is on Tuesday 2nd August starting from Gatehouse Community Centre. Registration is from 5.54pm with a 2.5km race for under 15s (£2) starting at 6.30pm and the main 6 mile race starting at 7pm.

This is a great event, open to all abilities of runners in both junior and main races. Entry is either via www.entrycentral.com/roonthewatter or by downloading a form from the Galloway Harriers Facebook page.

Entries are also open on the night. The Harriers are very happy to help Gatehouse celebrate their Gala week in this way and wish Gatehouse a Happy Gala 2016. Galloway Harriers will be marshalling and cheering runners on around the course.
