The Galloway Cup, sponsored by James Gordon Ltd, of Whauphill, Castle Kennedy and Castle Douglas, was won in style last Friday night at Stranraer Ice Rink by the Castle Kennedy rink skipped by Philip Wilson.
His team of Babs McIntyre, Colin Dalrymple and Michael Thompson beat their team-mates from Castle Kennedy - Hugh Parker, Beth Parker, Harry Waugh and Jim Ryder 9-3 in the final.
The Galloway cup is a special competiiton during the season as it involves rinks from the Stewartry Province as well as the Galloway Province and the Rhins o’ Gallowa’ Province.
A total of thirteen rinks entered the competition and by the semi-final satge the four left standing were predominatly from the Rhins, with Ross Inger the only Galloway Province representatiive.
At the close of play, Galloway Province Vice Pressident Drew Paton congratulated the winners and commiserated with the runner-up. He then asked Janette Sloan, the Rhins secretary to present the magnificent trophy to the winners along with prizes of cuff-links for the men and a brooch for Babs. The runners-up got crystal curling-themed swizzlesticks to stir their cocktails with.
A general vote of thanks, including for the generous sponsorship provided by James Gordon Ltd and for the work of the three province secretaries organising the competition, was delivered by Rhins Vice President Trevor Harrison.
