The Wigtownshire Foursomes were won by a team from Wigtown & Bladnoch Golf Club in windy conditions at St Medans Golf Club last Saturday.
The course was well presented and the day was dry but windy making for tricky conditions. As always a good score required keeping your ball in play and a touch of luck. As it turned out the team event of six pairs each with only four scores counting was a tightly fought battle between Portpatrick and Wigtown & Bladnoch Golf clubs who both provided a full compliment of players. The eventual winners where Wigtown & Bladnoch with a score of 262 compared with Portpatricks 264.5.
The individual pairs prize winners are as follows:
1, D Brodie & M Bartle (W&B) 61; 2, N Cluckie & W Neil (W&B) 61.5; 3, M Shannon & N Hyslop (Dun) 62.5; 4, G McLean & S Mitchell (Dun) 64.5; 5, R Herries & T Simpson (W&B) 65.5.
Also during the prize giving the Scratch league was presented to this years winners Wigtown & Bladnoch with Neil Cluckie collecting the trophy for the second time in their history after a winner takes all final round match against Newton Stewart with home advance proving decisive. The Handicap league trophy was also presented to the winners Newton Stewart after coming through a play-off against Stranraer after both clubs ended up even on points and on games won and lost. This is the first time the handicap league has had to be settled by a play-off.
