For the first time this season the weather was the winner in south football last weekend with only three fixtures surviving the severe frost that saw pitches being frozen all over the region.
The only South of Scotland League match to go ahead was in Dumfries where bottom placed YMCA fought out a close contest against Nithsdale Wanderers but went down eventually 4-2.
Two second round ties in the Haig Gordon cup survived with St Cuthbert Wanderers being beaten by the odd goal in three against Edusport Academy while Heston Rovers fought out a close encounter at Palmerston. The match was goalless at the half time break and by the 90 minute mark Uppers were playing with nine men but had equalised with Russell Jardine scoring. In extra time Jardine scored a second for Heston to send his team into round three.
