Final matches of the year this weekend

The final matches of the year in the South of Scotland League take place this Saturday with a full programme scheduled to be played.

League Leaders Edusport Academy have Upper Annandale as their visitors to Galabank. This is a match the home side will start as strong favourites to take the three points from provide they have all their players available but being holiday time they may be under strength which could give Uppers the opportunity of maybe taking something from the contest.

League favourites St Cuthbert Wanderers travel to Sanquhar to play Nithsdale Wanderers for a match the visitors should take the three points from.

Saints have a lot of fire power within their ranks and Nithsdale will have to be at their very best if they hope to contain the visitors from scoring more than a few goals. There is a local derby at Castle Cary Park where Creetown play hosts to Wigtown and Bladnoch.

The home side will fancy their chances of creating an upset in this match as the present League Champions are not firing on all cylinders so far this season and the young Creetown team are more than capable of holding their own to take something from this contest. Dumfries YMCA have the in form Mid-Annandale as their visitors for a match the Lockerbie side will start as favourites to continue their good run of form to take another three points.

Lochar Thistle visit Gatehouse to play Fleet Star and again the visitors look the more likelier of the two teams of taking the points and the plaudits from this encounter. Heston Rovers have Newton Stewart as their visitors to Palmerston Park for a match that could go close. Matches between these two teams are usually lively affairs and there is no reason to believe that this one will be any different with a share of the points a distinct possibility.

Your correspondent sends good wishes to all those connected with South football and hope that everybody has a very Happy Christmas break and return in January for a Sporting New Year.
