Newton Stewart Rugby Club played host to over 160 children from across Dumfries and Galloway for a fantastic festival of rugby on Sunday morning.
Teams from Annan, Dumfries, Moffat, Wigtownshire and Newton Stewart played games on four pitches across Bladnoch Park.
Youth Coach Peter Simpson said: “It was a fantastic day and all the children loved it. Playing games is the best way to learn rugby, and that is what these festivals are all about. Newton Stewart RFC Minis have attended festivals across the region and it is great to be able to play host at our own club.”
Thanks has to go the volunteers who refereed each game and provided catering for all the children, as well as over 250 parents and spectators.
Saturday’s West Division 1 clash between Oban Lorne and Newton Stewart was postponed due to the weather.
An 8am pitch inspection carried out by Oban Lorne RFC and Argyll & Bute Council deemed both Glencruitten and North Connel pitches to be waterlogged and unplayable.
A new date for the fixture will be arranged by the West Regional Commitee.
