Ewart wins Alex Gordon Memorial Trophy

Douglas Ewart High School Under 14s boy Football recently won the Alex Gordon Memorial Trophy, the Under 14s Schools Cup, at the David Keswick Centre, Dumfries beating Wallace Hall Academy in a penalty shoot out.

Both teams made an excellent start to the game, an even first half saw both schools have chances to take the lead. The second half continued in much the same way until Wallace Hall scored with around 10 minutes of the match remaining. To their credit the Douglas Ewart team did not give up in trying to find the equaliser and were rewarded with minutes to spare when a great cross from MatthewDeazeley set up a brilliant opportunity for Aaron Maguire to equalise and set up a nail biting penalty shoot out that would decide the final.

An excellent save from Douglas Ewarts goalkeeper Isaac Marshall meant the game finished 6-5 on penalties.

Both teams played exceptionally well and showed great attitudes throughout the game.

This is the first year that Douglas Ewart has been involved in this competition. The teacher in charge of the team is Mr Paul McKay
