Sandhead Bowling and Community Club held their annual Tam Handling Memorial Rinks on Saturday, September 3.
The competition, with 22 rinks taking part managed to be completed even though it was a showery day. The final was between Doit Kiltie’s Rink from Portwilliam/Eastriggs and Michael Young’s team from Stranraer. The Stranraer rink led most of the game, but a trail on the jack in the last end, by the Kiltie rink to make a three and eventually won the game.
At the presentations, President Lesley McColm thanked all the people that worked and helped out throughout the day. Lesley handed over to June Nichol, the SADS UK representative, who said a few words on the charity and what the money would be used for and mentioned how the £1500 given already was raised. The comprehensive closing speech was from Dean McColm, one of Tam’s really close friends. Dean thanked all the sponsors, who donated their hard earned cash to the tournament, including McKenzies Grocery Store, Sandhead. He went on to thank all the players out with the club who supplied raffle prizes and all who bought football teams and purchased raffle tickets which helped towards the total cash going to SADS UK. A special thank you goes out to Henry’s Bay House, Sandmill MOT Services, Tigh-na-mara Hotel and the Bar 12 for their generous gift vouchers, which helped make the amazing total of £500 that will be sent to Tam’s Charity. Marion and Brendan Handling would also like to thank everyone for their kindness.
