The Wigtownshire Golf Association held their annual Championship Day last Sunday at a well presented Wigtownshire County Golf Club.
In the Championship the winner was David Brodie from Newton Stewart GC with a gross 72 first round and a course equalling record of 65 in the second.
Second was the first round leader Mathew McCulloch from Dunskey GC with 69 in the morning and 72 in the afternoon. Third was David Gladstone from Stranraer GC with a 74 and 70. The top 16 available players will go through to the Wigtownshire Matchplay being played at the same course next week.
In its first year the Keith Hardie Trophy was won by Frank Grant from Wigtownshire County with a nett 68. Andrew Copeland was second with a 69 beating Ewan Marshall from Wigtown & Bladnoch with abetter inward half. The Ted & Jo Boyd Cup was won by Bob Graham from Stranraer with a nett 64. Second in the first class was Stephen Senior with a 65 and thrid was Sam Cummings with a 67. First in the Second Class was Harry Wilson with a 65, Steven Reid was second with a 67 and Scot Jones thrid with 70. The full results are available on Wigtownshire County’s Materscoreboard page.
Last week’s Scratch league saw Stranraer earning a good draw away against Newton Stewart. Wigtown & Bladnoch getting a win away from home against Wigtownshire County and Dunskey having a solid home win against St Medan. The ‘B’ league saw all the home teams ave convincing wins with Wigtown & Bladnoch beating Wigtownshire County, St Medan beating Dunskey and Stranraer beating Newton Stewart. This week there is a break week in the league as all the Clubs in Wigtownshire compete for the Dalymple Cup at St Medan. The first round of games on Wednesday see Newton Stewart playing Wigtownshire County and Wigtown & Bladnoch playing Dunskey with the winners playing each other on Saturday. Hosts St Medan play against Stranraer play the other semi final.
