Whithorn Braveheart heavyweight boxer Connal McDonald returned to the ring after a prolonged injury break and showed that the spark and talent was still there despite losing to the eventual winner.
Twenty-year-old Connal travelled as part of a strong Scotland squad to compete in the international Tammer tournament in Finland.
Bravehearts’ coach Ton Jolly said: “Connal boxed against the Swedish champion in a toe-to-toe battle with both boxers giving their all.”
A Boxing Scotland spokesperson added: “Connal McDonald lost on unanimous points to the Swedish Boxer but this was a great performance from Connal against one of the tournament’s best.
Considering this was Connal’s first fight in nearly two years due to injury and he can be well satisfied with his performance, keeping the contest close to the end but the experience of the tall southpaw won the day.”
Fellow Braveheart Tyler Jolly has been selected to box for Scotland in the 64kg category at the AIBA Youth World Championships in St Petersburg, Russia, from November 17 -26, and he is currently at a training camp in Belfast.
