The second round of the South’s principle cup competition, the Challenge Cup, takes place this weekend with seven ties scheduled to take place along with one South of Scotland League match.
The Senior Clubs take part in this competition that sees Upper Annandale hosting Queen of the South at Moffat following the Palmerston Park sides emphatic nine goals to nil victory over Wigtown in the first round.
This will be a good experience for the Moffat side who will do well to contain the young Queens players and minimise the scoreline.
Stranraer travel to Dumfries to play Lochar Thistle at Maxwelltown High School for a match the young visitors will be strong favourites to progress from.
The match at Meadow Park between Lowland League side Threave Rovers and South League side Edusport Academy should be an exciting and interesting encounter that could go either way although the home side will start as slight favourites to make it through to round three of this particular competition. Abbey Vale entertain Creetown on the 3G pitch at Dumfries High School for another contest that could go close while Mid-Annandale have Heston Rovers as their visitors to Lockerbie.
Mids are enjoying a good spell of form and again home advantage may just prove to be the deciding factor in what should be a very good and probably high scoring encounter. Fleet Star play hosts to Nithsdale Wanderers and with both sides showing a bit of inconsistency so far this season this contest could well take more than the regulation ninety minutes to find a winner.
Finally Newton Stewart have the free flowing St Cuthbert Wanderers as their visitors to Blairmount Park and although Saints are finding the net with ease in the League the Creesiders are expected to give the Kirkcudbright side a run for their money in this cuptie.
Crichton entertain Wigtown and Bladnoch in a League match at Hospital Park in a match the home side could well maintain their good run of form and take the three points to keep up their lofty league table position.
