Whithorn Braveheart boxers have been busy all recently with prestigious bouts away form home.
Connal McDonald’s trip north to Fraserburgh last weekend to box for Scotland against an experienced boxer from Norway resulted in a unanimous win for the local young heavyweight boxer.
Coach Wullie Martin said afterwards: “Connal used his height and reach to great advantage, pressurising the strong Norwegian from start to finish, even forcing the ref to give an eight count at the end of the second round. He put on a brilliant display of boxing. It is only two weeks till Connal travels to Swansea to compete in the GB championships and his training camp is going.”
Meanwhile, young Braveheart lightweight boxer Tyler Jolly was away on an international trip to Ireland to compete in the McGuigan Tournament as part of Team Scotland. He won his first bout with a unanimous decision, but lost the second bout against a former European medallist to a split decision.
Coach Tom Jolly said: “Tyler’s bout was so close it could have gone either way, the Scotland coach’s spoke highly of his hand speed and strength, Tyler is gaining great experience boxing quality opponents and he will have learned a lot from this trip,”
Two weeks ago Tyler also travelled to Dundee and won a majority decision against local boxer Logan Howett.
