Wigtown Curling Club stalwart Jim Cannon retained the Malcolm Henry Mixed Curling Trophy at Stranraer Ice Rink last week, but with a different line up from last year.

Jim’s new team of Louise Kerr, Jak Kane and Debbie Johnstone ended the popular one-day bonspiel as the highest-up rink overall after 12 rinks had taken to the ice over two sessions.

At the end of play, Stranraer Ice Rink President John McIntyre thanked all the players for supporting the competition before asking sponsor Malcolm Henry to step forward and present the handsome trophy, sets of crystal wine glasses and bottles of wine to the winners.

In his speech of thanks, the winning skip thanked his team for playing, the opposition for the game, which, he commented, was closer than the score suggested. He also thanked Malcolm Henry for his generous sponsorship of the competition and coming along to present the prizes and finally to ice rink manager Gail Munro and her staff for the excellent quality of the ice this season.
