The new rugby union league season is about to kick off, and all three Galloway teams are in action this Saturday.
The highest placed of the clubs, Newton Stewart, begin their campaign with an away fixture at Allan Glen’s in West Division One.
However, their fans will be able to cheer on their side next Saturday, September 7, when the Reds are at home at Bladnoch Park to Glasgow Academicals.
Stewartry will miss last season’s rivalry with Galloway neighbours Wigtownshire, who this term compete in West Division Three, but they have the consolation of a short away trip to Maybole to face Carrick in West Division Two.
The Blacks’ opening home league fixture next Saturday will see Cambuslang travel to Castle Douglas.
’Shire’s fans are being treated to a trio of home matches in succession. They actually began their competitive season last weekend with a great win over Millbrae from Ayr in the West Regional Bowl competition preliminary round, and they continue their cup aspirations this Saturday with a first round encounter in the same competition at London Road against Renfrew. Next week, they are at home again in the league when the men from Paisley come calling to Stranraer.
As usual, The Galloway Gazette will bring full coverage of how all the local sides fared.
