A perfect record of nine wins in the round-robin saw Stranraer’s Vicki Adams and her Scottish team-mates roar into the semi-finals of the European Curling Championships in the Braehead arena, Glasgow.
Cheered on by the home crowd, the team of Eve Muirhead, Anna Sloan, Vicki and Lauren Gray, have relished the chance to show their dominance on home ice.
Yesterday morning’s 8-4 win against Russia completed the set after the team took down Denmark 7-3; the Czech Republic 10-5; Germany 8-6; Switzerland 4-3; Finland 10-4; Norway 10-5; Sweden 6-5 and Italy 6-5. The team’s stellar performance also secured Scotland’s place in the next year’s world championships in China.
After beating the Czech Republic on Wednesday evening, Scotland skip Eve Muirhead said: “That’s us in the semi-final now, which is good. That was another solid performance against the Czech Republic - they’re in the mix so it’s extremely important that you get on top of the play-off teams at this stage. Every game has been tough and the important thing now is to keep the focus.”
Also qualified for today’s semi-finals are Sweden, Russia and for the first time at this level, the Czech Republic.
The semis, played at 2pm, will see favourites Scotland take on defending champions Russia while Sweden play the Czech Republic.
