The sixth annual Xmas Factor Primary Schools Carol Singing Competition was launched this week by Gretna Gateway Outlet Village and West Sound FM.
Open to primary schools across Dumfries and Galloway, the contest – previously repeatedly won by Whithorn Primary – has a top prize of £500 and a special Xmas Factor trophy, with £50 each for the four runners-up.
The eventual winners will be chosen through a combination of public voting and independent judging and schools have until 26 September to register.
The current title-holders are Palnackie Primary School who impressed last year’s judges with their beautiful rendition of ‘Ding Dong Merrily on High’.
To enter, schools choose one Christmas carol from a list of eight and then have eight weeks to practise before sending a recording of their performance to the competition organisers in advance of the 4 November deadline.
The judging panel initially shortlists 10 entries from all those received which is put to a public vote to decide the final five who will compete for the £500 top prize in a live Grand Final to be held at Gretna Gateway Outlet Village on Sunday 7 December.
Schools must register their intention to enter by either emailing Karen@artisanpr.co.uk, or calling 01578 722690 by Friday 26 September.
