Woman caught with heroin

A YOUNG woman was forced to come clean to her family over her drug use when she was caught with £20 of heroin, the court heard on Tuesday.

Helen Kelly, 21, of Cairnport Road, Stranraer, was described by lawyer Margot Nicol as an “occasional user” of heroin who had been caught by police after a surveillance of a house on Stair Drive on 30 November last year.

Mrs Nicol said that unemployed Kelly had not used since December after her family found out about her occasional use and helped her keep off the drug, and that she had been given a fright by being detained by police. Sheriff Kenneth Robb said imposing a community payback order of 40 hours would provide Miss Kelly with agency assistance to help keep her off heroin.
