WHITHORN Primary School choir have once again been crowned winners of the region’s Xmas Factor contest held at the weekend.

In an exciting grand final at Gretna, defending champions Whithorn battled it out with Twynholm, Eaglesfield, St Mungo and St Michael’s primary schools for the title and wowed the judges with their rendition of Deck the Halls.

A record number of entries had been received for this year’s competition, run by Gretna Gateway Outlet Village and West Sound Radio.

For the second year in a row, Whithorn were chosen by a panel of judges comprising leading Dumfries and Galloway folk singer Emily Smith, Bruce McKenzie from West Sound Radio and Lisa McNab from Gretna Gateway Outlet Village.

For their award-winning performance, Whithorn Primary won a cheque for £500 for their school as well as a special Xmas Factor trophy.

Each of the runners up also received a certificate and a £50 cheque for their school.

Lisa McNab from Gretna Gateway said; “This year’s Xmas Factor has had an amazing response with almost a quarter of Dumfries and Galloway’s primary schools getting involved. Choosing the eventual winner is always an extremely difficult decision as it’s obvious that all of the children have worked so hard. They’re all very talented and should be extremely proud of themselves. All of the schools who entered have given a tremendous amount of pleasure to thousands of people both here at Gretna Gateway and on West Sound Radio. We’d like to thank them all for making some beautiful music for us all to enjoy this Christmas.”
