Wheelie Good Bike Show is called off

This year’s Wheelie Good Bike Show in Newton Stewart has been called off.

The annual motorbike event has been postponed by its organisers, the Rotary Club, which has called for
new committee members
to help organise next year’s show instead.

With several Rotarians having moved from away the area, the club said this week that time was running away with the remaining members and a decision had been taken
to postpone so “next year it can return to be even bigger and better”.

A spokesperson said: “Over the past three years, the show has been a great success, attracting many visitors to the area on the day and, hopefully, for longer stays too.

“As most people will appreciate, the day takes nine months of preparation and development to make it a success and this requires a lot of time and effort from Rotarians and other volunteers from the community.

“We need to recruit new committee members who are able to undertake some of the bike show tasks and bring new ideas with them to make it bigger and better for 2015.

“To make it work, there are many things which need to be done on the day and beforehand. All of these things take time and effort to organise,
so if you have an interest, please come along to a meeting at the Bruce Hotel on Thursday, May 22, at 7pm, or contact committee chairman Ken McCubbin on kennethmccubbin@gmail.com.”

One of the show’s original organisers, Glen Stansfield, said: “Sadly, I can no longer be as involved as I have moved overseas. However, some of you who come to the show may have the time to spare, so please do not let the show fade away.

“Give the Rotary Club support. They were kind enough to take on the project and give me support when I approached them. Please get involved.”

The Rotary Club meets at The Bruce Hotel, Newton Stewart, on Thursdays at 6pm for dinner and conversation.
