Want to join a big band?

IF you have a hankering to be involved in recreating the sound of a big band era here is your chance.

Big band fan and local musician Andrew Turnbull is holding a meeting about forming a ‘Big Band Skool’ in Annan Academy next Tuesday at 6.30pm for anyone interested.

He is looking for players of horns, woodwind, double/electric bass, piano/keyboards, drums and percussion. All levels of playing ability and musical background will be considered and there will be regular rehearsals and workshops. Once the big band is up and running, their repertoire will span classic swing from 30s and 40s to more modern and progressive pieces.

Andrew said: “Come along to the meeting and find out how you can get involved with this new project in the Border region. No need to bring your instruments on this occasion; it will just be a chat, a head count and a chance to meet everyone face to face. If you can think of anyone that might be interested then pass on the details. I’d like to see complete beginners there as well as professionals.

“Come to the main reception at the front of the school. Plenty of car parking. I will be around to direct you to the right room. And if you are lost, then you can always ring me on 07902 532883.

“I look forward to seeing you there!”
