Teenager abused police

A 19-year-old Stranraer man who called a police officer a “poof” was ordered to do 100 hours of community service when he appeared from custody on Tuesday at Stranraer Sheriff Court.

Ian Marshall, 1 Birch Close, admitted behaving in an abusive manner by shouting and swearing and making derogatory sexual remarks in Darnia Avenue and at the charge bar of Stranraer police station on Monday.

Procurator fiscal depute Kay Christie told the court the police were called to a disturbance in the town. On their arrival they were met with the accused shouting that he would “take them on”. He then referred to an officer as “a gay boy” before he was arrested and charged.

Sentencing Marshall, Sheriff Kenneth Robb told the accused he would end up in prison if he continued such behaviour, advising him to “get his head sorted and do something useful.”
