The fifth annual spring show of blackface sheep from the Dumfries and Galloway branch of breeders was hailed an outstanding success by competitors and spectators alike.

This very popular show was held on Thursday 1st March within Newton Stewart Auction Mart, by kind permission of Craig Wilson Ltd. A packed audience of breed enthusiasts were treated to a fantastic show of sheep with a record entry of 78 animals forward. The person charged with the prestigious task of judging these large classes was Sanny Blackwood who runs the renowned Greenside flock at Muirkirk. His champion on the night came from Graham and Colin McClymont, Cuil with the winner of the aged tup class. This big tup proved a popular champion with many as the stock judging cards revealed. Owned in partnership with William and Sam McClymont of Tinnis, this tup was bought at Lanark in 2011 for £42,000 from Upper Cleugh, Lockerbie.

On a winning streak again at this event were prominent local breeders Messrs W Ramsay & Sons of Milnmark who took first place in the home bred tup hogg class, the gimmer class and to give us our reserve champion, the ewe class. The Ramsays were the winner of the new trophy for reserve champion kindly donated by Mrs Isobel Cuthbertson, Dalry. Their reserve champion ewe is by the £6000 Milnmark and out of a ewe by a home bred son of the Emperor. She is in lamb to the £11,000 Auldhousburn and is carrying twins.
